1 of 3 (or 4) entries to the contest. I'm entering multiple entries but I don't think I'll win - to be honest it's not entirely about the contest, this was just a motivator to go and redraw some of my older works to maybe convince myself I am improving. This picture... well, I remember being quite proud of it (well as proud as I get anyway, I always have doubts) especially since I'd always wanted to draw a picture like this. A dark room with a shiny TV... don't know why but it's always been a kind of lonely image to me. I think I've improved a lot from this point, granted, it's been quite a few years since I drew the original; it was done in 2009. I may or may or may not have had a tablet at this point, I don't think I did but I seriously don't remember.
A lot of people I think just improve on just their colouring but I've really tried to improve in all areas. I've drawn from realism and watched/read a lot a lot a LOT of tutorials. And yes, I still need to do more and improve more but I think I've come a long way here. C: Not just in terms of story though, also in terms of writing. See, this is a picture of an old character from an old project called M.A.Y.A. which was an acronym for something, really don't remember what (sadly, usually I do; it was Melancholic X, Young and Alone, something like that) where the character (Maya) had powers and was like, super emo about it. But there really wasn't much to it; the characters were few (only Maya and her dad, I think) and boring and the plotline was kind of just a sobfest "I'm so alone and emotionless" and stuff. The imagery could be good but the project itself was really dull and I scrapped it. Since then I've come up with several other projects I actually enjoy working on; because of the characters, the plots, key scenes and just generally messages and dialogue.
I think there's a lot more to improvement then um, well what you can see, in a way. With this redone picture I tried to take account of everything; the perspective of the couch behind her, the lighting of the TV, the 3D-ness of her bodyparts and folds in her dress... and as I said, I didn't quite perfect everything and I could do with even more improvement but I think I did a great job nonetheless.
I hope I can improve even more than this in the future. C:
